The New 3-Tier North Stand

The North Stand during construction in mid-1996 On the 17th of March, 1995, Manchester United's Chairman Martin Edwards announced "the biggest, the most costly and the most ambitious development ever undertaken by Manchester United". He was referring to the new 3-tier North Stand, designed to accommodate 25,110 spectators.

Costing 19 million pounds, it required 400 tonnes of
steel and features the largest cantilever roof in
Europe. Incorporated in the 2nd tier are 31 private
boxes, called `Sky Boxes'.

The stand gradually opened in stages throughout the
1995/96 season and was officially opened in early 1996.
The stand has increased the seating capacity of
Old Trafford to just over 55,000, making it the
biggest club stadium in Britain.
Old Trafford hosted five games in Euro 96, the
second highest number of games behind Wembley,
including the Semi-final between France and the
Czech Republic.

Also located in the North Stand is the real Red Cafe,
open seven days a week from mid-day until 11pm offering
a wide ranged menu!!
