PREMIER LEAGUE, FA CUP & EUROPEAN CUP CHAMPIONS 1999!Subject: BOSNICH SHRUGS OFF ARREST Mark Bosnich today shrugged off his scrape with the police last week, insisting he was focused on the task of replacing Peter Schmeichel at Manchester United. Bosnich was arrested by police on suspicion of robbing a press photographer outside a lap-dancing club last week, the night before his wedding to former model Sarah Jarrett. "My main concern is what I do on the football pitch," said the Australia international goalkeeper, in Sydney for the official Olympic stadium opener between the Socceroos and a FIFA world team. "That's all. And that's how I expect to be judged, by what I do on the pitch." Explaining his decision to go to Old Trafford rather than a continental club, he said: "When arguably the biggest club in the world comes calling, if you're worth your salt as a professional footballer, you want to take up that challenge. "And also the challenge of seeing whether I'm good enough to follow Peter Schmeichel - perhaps the biggest challenge." The 27-year-old, who moved from Aston Villa to United on a free transfer under the Bosman ruling, said the match against the FIFA world team was the first stop on Australia's road to the next World Cup. "Saturday's match is the start of a long road that hopefully will lead us to South Korea and Japan in 2002." Leeds' Harry Kewell, Celtic's Mark Viduka and West Ham's Stan Lazaridis are all expected to play. Bosnich told a press conference that legal constraints prevented him from commenting on last week's altercation with the photographer. He was not charged but must report to police next month.

PREMIER LEAGUE, FA CUP & EUROPEAN CUP CHAMPIONS 1999!Subject: BLUES ADMIT SHERI INTEREST Birmingham have admitted they are considering a bid to lure Manchester United and England star Teddy Sheringham from Old Trafford. Chairman David Gold confirmed the First Division club would be interested in signing the experienced striker - who was on target for United in both the FA Cup Final and the Champions League Final. Gold said: "Somebody came to us and said to us 'would we be interested in Teddy Sheringham in the event he became available' and we said 'yes we would'. "That is far as we have gone. We have done no more and no less than that at this stage. We are looking at many options and nothing is specific at this time. "If Teddy became available he is a player that we would be interested in talking to. "If the opportunity was to emerge then we would certainly show some interest. He is a fantastic player who has done a superb job at Manchester United." Sheringham, 33, has a year remaining on his contract with United having moved to Old Trafford in 1997 from Spurs for £3.2million. A £2million move for Sheringham would break the transfer record at St Andrews that currently stands at the £1.6million for Peter Ndlovu from Coventry City.

Kevin Keegan has called up both Teddy Sheringham and Robbie Fowler in a bold last-ditch bid to rescue England's Euro 2000 qualifying campaign. England coach Keegan has made six changes from the team which drew 0-0 with Sweden at the weekend for Wednesday's match against Bulgaria in Sofia. He hands a debut to Leeds centre-back Jonathon Woodgate and gives a first start to Sunderland left-back Michael Gray. Liverpool's Jamie Redknapp is given the chance to be the midfield creator. Andy Cole and Tim Sherwood are dropped, Martin Keown, Graeme Le Saux and David Beckham are injured, and Paul Scholes is suspended. It is Manchester United striker Sheringham's first start for a year - since the World Cup match against Romania - while it is Liverpool forward Fowler's first since November 1997, when he scored against Cameroon.

Roma's highly-rated midfielder Luigi Di Biagio has emerged as a top target for Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson. As revealed last week, Alex Ferguson's main priority this summer is to add another left-sided player to his highly successful squad and the 26-year old Italian would fit that bill perfectly. If United were to land Di Biagio, it would be a body blow for Chelsea who were hoping to tie up a £6million deal for the player which involved a swap for Roberto Di Matteo. It now seems that move has collapsed following a call from Fergie's holiday retreat. Roma reckon they have had a firm bid from United and the wheels have been set in motion. If everything goes according to the speculation Di Biagio would be the first Italian to move to United have signed and could be seen as an indication that more players from Serie-A are keen to play in the Premiership. As European Champions, United should expect to attract talent from anywhere, but this has not always been the case with English clubs whose extended programme is a put-off to many continentals.
