His debut in the FA Cup was even more dramatic, as this was made at
Wembley in the 1977 final! Albiston was selected in place of the unlucky;
Stewart Houston who damaged ankle ligaments a fortnight before Wembley.

Still only 19 years old and with little senior experience, Albiston nevertheless
had a fine match,playing a full part in United`s 2-1 victory over League
Champions Liverpool.

He established a regular place in the team in the following campaign and
remained a steady, loyal and often unsung component for the next 10 seasons,
although a cartilage operation put him out of action for 4 months in 79-80.

He appeared in 4 FA Cup Finals, collecting a record three winners medals,
and was a Football League Cup finalist in 1983.

On the International front,he represented Scotland Schoolboys,
five appearances for Scotland Under 21`s,and won 14 full caps.

In June 1983 after almost 500 appearances for United, he rejoined his old boss,
Ron Atkinson, at West Bromich Albion. In season 1992-3,at the age of 36 years,
Arthur Albiston was still in League football with Chester City.
